Here are a couple of photos showing businesses near the intersection of London Road and 26th Avenue East, before the Interstate 35 extension was built – the same area that was shown in an aerial view in a previous post. The Lemon Drop restaurant is gone now, but its name lives on each year when Grandma’s Marathon runners climb the hill shown in these photos. That rise was dubbed "Lemon Drop Hill" by the News Tribune sports staff during marathon coverage in the late 1970s.

Boy what memories! When I was a kid I remember Mom driving us to Henry’s Hamburgers which was located right across the street next to a veternarians office. The Burgers were 19 cents. HAHA! you couldn’t buy the pickle slice for that now! The Flammette advertised Broasted chicken as one of their specialties. I used to get it confused with the Flame restaurant down by the Duluth Arena. Wow how time flies. I live in Seattle (last 30 years) but still miss the old stompin grounds.
$1.08 for gas? Nice.

Lemon drop was the turn around point on cruse nite.
Start out at A and Dubs, on west Grand, stop and Sandys in Denfield, then out to the Lemon drop on London Rd.
My parents use too eat here in the late 70′s early 80′s–we would come up too Duluth in the late winter–there was a window you could sit near in the back of the restaurant-and look out, sometimes with the snow falling–Great memeories–I would pay dearly for a postcard or menu from this place–stejskal68@comcast.net
PS: Great post card view. Sure brought back a lot of fond memories. Thanks!
Lemon Drop was a great little neighborhood restaurant. Good omelets. They also poured a cheese sauce over everything: french fries, scrambled eggs, potatoes. How I miss it!
In the 60′s, it was The Flamette and part of the Flamette Motel/Restaurant/Service Station “complex.
Old postcard view.
